Here's another sheet of quotes to use in your journal, and another collage page from my journal showing how I've been using the materials we share in class:
As you can see, I tend to stick to one or two colours, building up layers as I go. This started off as an ad for tropical vacations. I covered the central text from the ad with a strong image as a focal point and then echoed the browns in the ad by creating a washi tape border. I found an article heading that included the word beautiful (which was in the quote), and then added in some of the pale blue to tie the page together. Blue and brown are on the opposite sides of the colour wheel (brown being a variant of orange) so they make a nice contrast to each other. The quote was originally printed in just black and white, but a little bit of added pencil crayon made it fit in the colour scheme better. And then I stamped black seedheads to give the page some "motion", and it also echoes the black lines in the washi tape.
I don't want to bore you with the step by step, but several of you have been asking how I construct my pages, so I thought I'd give a little more detail on this one. There are two important things to remember about my process: 1) I don't usually have a "plan" when I start, I just pay attention to my intuition, and 2) these pages are a direct result of practice and experimentation.
Sometimes I get things terribly "wrong" (i.e I don't love them), but I learn and go forward. For example, on this page, the position of the pale blue quote box on the left side is covering where I tried writing the quote directly on the page and got it *so* wrong (ran out of room). So I wrote the quote out on a separate piece of paper and glued it over my previous attempt. See? Not so perfect - but perfectly salvageable with a little creativity. So don't fret the small stuff - just play and see where it goes.
Hope to see you in the next class, which will be March 22nd. Usual place (Hillcrest Community Center), usual time (7:00-8:30). We'll be having some fun with creativity for stress relief - zentangle, mandalas and colouring books ...

Really like the clear step by step directions. I think that's helpful advice.
