May ~ So many manifestos ~ oh my!

As promised, here are possibly too many manifestos to read. Pace yourself. Let the words sink in. There's no hurry ...

By the always inspiring Austin Kleon. He posts wonderful inspiration on a regular basis.

Bruce Lee's personal manifesto. What? You didn't think I'd follow Bruce Lee's advice.

The Holstee Manifesto. I love that they made a conscious company decision to do this.

Two more very short ones you:

5 Rules for Life

1. Be honest with yourself
2. Let yourself be vulnerable
3. Live in accordance with your values
4. See as much as you can of what’s right in front of you
5. Treat yourself like you want others to treat you

Die Empty

1. Value your contribution
2. Avoid mediocrity
3. Define your battles
4. Be fiercely curious
5. Step out of your comfort zone
6. Know yourself
7. Be confidently adaptable
8. Find your voice
9. Stay connected
10. Live EMPTY

From Todd Henry’s book, Die Empty, where he asks two fundamental questions:

What would your life look like if you made every day count?
What are you going to do about it right now?
“Die Empty” is his way of saying: Don’t leave this life with your best work still inside you.

If you're *still* looking for more manifestos, may I suggest you have a look at 1000 Manifestos. They don't actually have 1000 manifestos, but they do have quite a few. Look for topics or people that interest you and don't get overwhelmed!

And lastly, here are a few manifestos I've made over the years:

This one I created for a collaborative project quite a few years ago.
Below (with the red border) is the collage manifesto I made the last time we did this exercise. I wrote down each the things I thought were important on separate pieces of paper so I didn’t have to think about their order. Then I moved the pieces around till they filled the space.

Some of the thoughts and ideas I borrowed from the manifestos I’ve included in this handout for you, others were things I’ve been saying to myself for a long time. There’s no right or wrong way for you to create a manifesto ~ just do it!

.
Well ... that should tide you over for a few days! But there's more to come on manifestos. As in more on the art-making that can be done with them. That's for next post!
