A few years ago for The Sketchbook Project, I set myself a task to improve my art skills by creating a piece of art in the style of one of my favourite artists combined with an inspiring quote. For example, I combined a quote by Carl Jung with my attempt at the style of Seth Fitts, an artist whose work delights me, and is totally different from how I normally work:
If you've been to class, you've probably seen my sketchbook in real life, if you haven't, you can see it online at the Sketchbook Project Digital Library.
Your mission: choose a favourite quote and let it inspire you to create a page in your journal.
During class, I chose one at random from the little Bag'o'Quotes I created for the class. The quote I pulled (appropriately) was this: "I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it." ~ Pablo Picasso. Here's how my journal page turned out:
This page is created out of two pages from Meditation magazine. My intention was to tear the text section from the second page and turn it upside down to become the sky on my page, but when I tore off a little bit too much, so when I overlapped them a bit of text from the bottom page wasn't covered. That little bit of exposed text said: "into our own creativity", which is pretty cool for a happy accident of misjudgment, so I've let it stay there.
To finish the page I glued the quote into the "sky" and then drew wavy horizontal lines across the page over and over using wax crayons and pencil crayons. So much of me wanted to add MORE to this! Bit sometimes the secret of beauty is knowing when to stop.
Here are the rest of your handouts for this class, and some of the page I created using the quotes from the handouts, plus some collage ...
PS ~ I've created a "class journal" that'll be making the rounds as we continue. If you'd like to create a page in the journal to share with everyone, ask me at the next class and you can have it next!

nice work
