Week 1: Positive Self-Portrait Collage

Let's start off your journal with an exercise in positive self-image:

Turn to the first page in your journal …
  • Create a self-portrait using images from magazines, felt pens, pencil crayons and washi tape.
  • Resist the urge to look for faces that “look like you”. Build your face out of objects and textures, or even bits of different faces you find.
  • Your finished collage doesn’t have to look like you NOW ~ think of it as your other self, your past self, your future self, your child self, etc.
  • Cover as much of the whole page as you can.

Once your collage self is complete … find positive words in magazines or write out words as follows:
  • Who you’d like to be, qualities you aspire to
  • Compliments people have paid you (even if you didn't believe them)
  • Attributes of you at your best
  • Strengths you have that have helped you through difficult times

Feel free to create a face in whatever way comes to you, but if you're stuck, here's a template:
We often find it easy to believe the worst of ourselves, It's important to remember all your good qualities as you begin a new venture.

Here's this exercise as a single sheet handout:
